Occupational Therapy Independence Bungalow
Occupational Therapy Independence Bungalow
The National Spinal Injuries Centre has an independence bungalow that patients can stay in during their admission:
-
- This enables patients to practise skills they have learnt in rehabilitation, away from the ward, in a home-based environment.
- Relatives, carers or friends may be able to stay with you in the bungalow.
- This will enable them to see how you manage day to day tasks in a home environment and the challenges you may face
- It will also enable them to develop the skills to assist you or help you solve problems, as the need arises.
- The bungalow is fully equipped with emergency pull cords, so help from the ward can be summoned in an emergency, making the bungalow an ideal place to practice skills in a safe environment prior to discharge.
Booking the bungalow
-
- Booking of the bungalow is made through your named OT, once the need has been identified at your goal planning meeting or through your consultant’s ward round.
- Your OT will be responsible for setting clear therapeutic goals for your stay, based on your progress in rehabilitation
