    • At Back Up, we know that people affected by spinal cord injury are best placed to know what they need and to support others in a similar situation.
    • We undertake research too, as it invariably helps us to better understand how people can adapt to life with a spinal cord injury.
    • Finally, we always ensure that every single decision we make is led by the needs of the people we support.

Our Courses

There are courses for people of all ages, backgrounds and levels of injury
– complete or incomplete, whether you use a wheelchair or walk, there is a course for you.

NOTE: The team at Back Up are closely monitoring government advice on coronavirus.
We know that the situation is changing daily, and because of this we are working to rearrange courses to a more suitable date.
Please keep an eye on our social media for updates.

Next Steps course
  • This covers life skills such as using public transport, cooking and getting around a busy city.
  • The course also gives you an opportunity to share experiences and talk about different issues related to being able to walk following a spinal cord injury.
  • The topics discussed include pain, fatigue management, invisible disability, guilt and other issues.
Back Up to Work
  • If you are not in employment, volunteering or training, then Back Up to Work is for you.
  • This course is not about finding a job for you, but is about equipping you with the knowledge and confidence you need to work towards your employment goals.
  • If you’re a parent of a child with a spinal cord injury, there are also specific courses for under 18s too.

Back Up’s new virtual (online) course is exclusively for people who have sustained a spinal cord injury within the last 12 months.

Our “What Next?” course aims to help by offering an eLearning programme combined with a weekend of live Q&A Zoom sessions and workshops.

The eLearning will be a hub full of information about living well with a spinal cord injury and will cover such topics as:

    • Continence
    • Health and wellbeing
    • Mobility/Getting out and about
    • Relationships
    • Accessing support in the community
