St Francis Ward annual report 2018/2019

From April 2018 to March 2019, St Francis ward had 204 admission episodes:
  • 30 of these were new admissions, ie
    a child with a new SCI;
    or a child with an existing SCI referred for further specialist assessment and/or rehab
  • The remaining 174 were elective readmissions either for MDT review, further rehabilitation or surgery
CARF Accreditation *
  • In Spring 2018 the service received a further 3 year CARF accreditation
  • This recognised excellence for both our Inpatient Rehabilitation Programme and Interdisciplinary Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation Programme

Clinical
  • Children with a new SCI continue to demonstrate significant gains on validated rehabilitation outcome measures including the Spinal Cord Independence Measure (SCIM) and Child Needs Assessment Checklist (cNAC) (see graphs).
  • This year our Bucks Spinal Children’s Charity provided funds for the purchase of a 12 Channel electrical stimulation unit (The Xcite) for ongoing activity based rehabilitation.
  • We also received a donation of a children’s lightweight manual wheelchair.
100% of the children who said they had pain during their admission said we were able to help them.
100% of the children who said they had worries or concerns during their stay said we did everything to help them.
97% of the children said they felt safe during their ward stay in St Francis
