Pressure relief

If you are able to relieve pressure, this should be carried out every hour for 2 minutes.

    • Pressure relief helps to prevent disruption of the blood flow for long periods of time to the seating area.
    • It allows fresh blood to flow to the weight bearing areas of your skin and allows waste products to be “drained away”- essential needs for healthy skin.
    • Pressure relief can be achieved by taking your bottom off your seating area, or by leaning side to side to side or forward, moving your body weight off the bony prominences as you have been shown to do.

    • Adequate pressure relief involves full clearance of the boniest points.
